One, In contemporary usage, a picnic is a pleasure
excursion taking place in a beautiful landscape such as
a park. ANOG Picnics are family-oriented, large
get-together, combined with a cookout. Two, distance
between Lagos and Atlanta is about 9500 kilometers or
5900 miles, approximately 10 flying time, depending on
the plan.
|
Thus, the least Nigerians resident in
Atlanta could do is get together once in a while, share
experiences, make new friends <who knows, make marital
connection, find that spouse! :) >, create a networking
forum where our children and succeeding generations of
Nigerians can mingle, build future enduring
relationships, and create mutually beneficial
professional and cordial alliances. No limit to the
possibilities. Whatever happened to being your brother's
keeper?. That 'Contact' your are looking for?
So, take a break from the "Homebuddy' philosophy.
Jettison this "I am on my own" theory. Step out of your
space, kick the recession in the face and meet the 'creme
de la creme' of folks that share your heritage. Yes,
there are many professional, honest, 'high-powered'
reliable Nigerians in Atlanta. Get out, meet them, have
fun. If you have a meal, a drink, some fruits to bring
and share. Splendid. If not, there is enough food for
all. Just show up. See yah there.

Bring some picnic food and drinks. Do you have
some indoor games (like ludo, cards, checkers, monopoly, "Ayo"
boards, and you haven't played with anyone in a while? bring them
along. Are you an 'expert' on the BBQ grill? Send us a note. There
will be a ping pong table. Bring your skills. You are good at making
'chin chin"?, puff puff? Meat patty? Make some for your friends at
the Picnic. You like to donate some cash? Contact ANOG General
Secretary (lanretwo@hotmail.com). Most importantly, bring some love
to share, some goodwill to marinate, some banters to grill and some
friendship/relationships to develop.
Even if you are not able to make any contribution or donation, just
bring yourself and have fun. It is your picnic. It is our community.
It is the human translation of "Systems Integration". Don't miss it.
C'mon down...

"Even the rain
was a blessing, for we have never had such a crowd in our
picnic. Thanks to everyone who defied the slippery roads,
the showers of rain and came in large numbers"
