01-25-10:  Summer leadership program in Washington, DC

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS!
The Institute for Responsible Citizenship is currently accepting applications for its summer leadership program in Washington, DC. The Institute provides America’s best and brightest African American male college students with unparalleled networking opportunities, leadership development, and life long mentorship.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Exposure to congressmen, Supreme Court justices, doctors , business executives, educators, and other influential leaders Rigorous academic seminars Roundtable discussions, including seminars on leadership development High level internships around Washington, DC Activities that promote strong bonds with each other

PROGRAM DETAILS
The program runs from June 5 to July 31, 2010
Students must commit to two summers
Housing is paid for by the Institute
Students work at paid internships based on their career interest

You should be a college sophomore to apply. The Institute does not have a GPA requirement. However, the median GPA for recent classes is 3.65. An applicant’s GPA is not the only criterion that is evaluated during the admissions process. Campus involvement, awards earned, athletics, and volunteer work are also important factors.

01-23-10: Opportunities for PAID internships at media companies
We are looking for minority RISING high school seniors and RISING college freshmen to work in PAID internships at media companies throughout the United States. These are multi-summer internships that will last throughout their undergraduate college years.

Qualified students should have at least a 3.0 GPA, plan to attend a 4-year college, and have an interest in media/communication s. Selected recipients are PAID and receive a matching scholarship each summer to help pay for college expenses. 01-14-10: Various Scholarship opportunities for our children

  1. All 9-12th grade students are invited to apply for the Best Buy Scholarship. One thousand scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded.   2. The Georgia Department of Education is sponsoring the 4th Annual Art & Essay Contest for 2009-2010 "Who"s My Neighbor?" . High School and Middle school students in Georgia are invited to submit an original work or art or written composition on the them of 'Who's My Neighbor". : => Expedited path to American Citizenship - MAVNI

Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest Pilot Recruiting Program

The US Army is  looking for linguists in specific languages; the applicants don't need to have a green card or a U.S citizenship to apply for this program. The name of the program is: MILITARY ACCESSIONS VITAL TO THE NATIONAL INTEREST (MAVNI) PILOT PROGRAM. If the applicants are fully qualified for this program they will be accepted into the U.S. Navy to serve this country , and they will receive U.S. Citizenship immediately upon acceptance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Age : 17 - 34(male or female) with a high school diploma either from original country or the U.S

  2. With a valid Visa : Visas issued to asylees, refugees, aliens admitted under temporary protected   status, or for non- immigrant categories of E, F, H, I, J, K, L, M, O, P, Q, R, S, T, TC, TD, TN, U or V.

  3. Must have maintained residency in the United States in an eligible visa status for a minimum of three years.

  4. Must have a social security card.

  5. Physically and mentally qualified.

    The languages that the US Army is  requesting are:
    -    Arabic
    -    Igbo
    -    Pashtu/Pashto
    -    Persian Afghan (Dari)
    -    Somali
    -    Swahili
    -    Urdu
    -    Yoruba

    The benefits of this program are that the applicant will get full U.S. Citizenship right away and receive the same benefits as all U.S. military personnel. 

    The program seeks to recruit up to 333 people with the needed medical/dental skills and up to 557 people with critical foreign language and culture skills. The program is scheduled to end Dec. 31, 2009, unless the Secretary of Defense extends the cutoff date. The program's results and the Army's needs will determine whether it continues or is expanded.
