The Uma G'bae N'Edo club of Atlanta would like to thank you for visiting our website. As you navigate through the site we hope that you'll find it informative and learn to treasure and appreciate the Edo culture as much as we do. Benin City in Edo state, Nigeria is the cradle of black civilization, famous for its arts, culture, and conquests. The ancient Benin kingdom spanned a greater part of the present day southern Nigeria, extending as far as to the Ashanti region of Ghana, and to Idah in the northern part of Nigeria. In our effort to preserve and promote this rich culture, we invite you to join us in our endeavor.

About Us

In May 2006, fourteen Edo speaking honorable men got together to realize a dream they had nursed for years.  The Birth of Uma Gbae N’Edo came into being. The club's desire to foster the spirit of oneness, cooperation among its members, inculcate in their children a sense of pride in the Edo culture and project to the world the richness of their culture, are well and alive today. To this end, the club is in the process of embarking on an ambitious project to build a state of the art cultural center that will serve as a museum, social and learning centers.

Did you know that you can advertise your business, social functions, greetings, e.t.c. on this site for a nominal fee of $200:00/year? Try it today and take your advertising needs to the next level. The internet offers a global reach and you can make the world your audience.

Our Mission

The Uma Gbae N’Edo club of Atlanta’s mission is primarily to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the people. To this end, we will leave no stone unturned in our endeavor to propagate the history of the Benin Kingdom; learn, speak and teach the Edo language, and promote the culture of this unique people to all the Edo’s at home and in the diaspora. The Uma Gbae N’Edo club was formed by a group of friends; therefore, its motive is to serve the best interest of its members, establish bond among members, assist others (Edo citizens in particular) and ensure that we are each other’s keeper.

  1. To foster the spirit of oneness and cooperation among the club members.
  2. To give financial and moral support to any of our members that may be in need.
  3. To cultivate and enhance good relationship with other Edo people and clubs in Atlanta and the United States of America.
  4. To establish and nurture a new culture amongst the Edos that unity is not an aberration among us. In other words it is an achievable possibility that ‘UMA can “GBA N`EDO”
  5. To build a cultural center that will house and exhibit the rich art and craft of the people, and a school that will teach the Edo language and culture.
  6. To inculcate the ideology of "all for one and one for all", so that we can collectively achieve our motto which is “NIMA GHAMA”.
